The Michael Williams Field of Dreams

"If you build it, they will come', so goes the line from the Kevin Costner classic movie "Field of Dreams".  On July 11, 2003 Highland Little League began construction of the Michael Williams Field of Dreams, a new baseball field at Markley Park in Mike's hometown of Highland Indiana.

Michael Williams died September 6, 2001 from Neuroblastoma cancer he was 7 years old..  Mike's courage and love of baseball led Highland Little League president Dan Vassar to honor Mike's memory.  On Sat. May 1, 2004 Highland Little League held the opening day ceremony for the new Michael Williams Field of Dreams.  Highland Little League has grown to over 500 little leaguers who all braved the cold and damp weather to remember their friend and fellow player.

Mike's family enjoyed the inaugural year of Mike's field as did the players.  The 12 year old all stars had a winning season, thanks to their "Angel in the Outfield" as Mike was called.  Three title flags fly high and proud, Highland won district, sectionals and state a truly miraculous year.

In addition to the baseball field, a soccer field was also named in Mike's honor.  In September 2002 the soccer field in Highland's Sheppard Park was named The Michael Williams Memorial Field.  Mike enjoyed playing in the Highland Soccer Club since he was 4 years old.
